Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal joins Emily Wolfe on “LIPS”
Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes teams with Austin singer, songwriter and guitarist Emily Wolfe on “LIPS,” released through Judge & Jury Records. Wolfe and Hughes share vocals and co-writing duties, turning the song into a swaggering rock duet built on chemistry, groove and sharply defined guitars.
Released on April 14, 2026, “LIPS” is the first single from Wolfe’s forthcoming album. The track combines the loose swing of 1970s rock, the attitude of 1980s hard rock and modern production from Gavin Brown, Howard Benson and Neil Sanderson.
About Eagles of Death Metal
Eagles of Death Metal is an American rock band formed in Palm Desert, California, in 1998 by lifelong friends Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Despite the name, the band does not play death metal. Its sound pulls from garage rock, boogie rock, desert rock, blues, glam, rockabilly and hard rock, pairing fuzzy guitar riffs with danceable grooves, tongue-in-cheek humor and an unmistakably theatrical sense of swagger.
The group first appeared through Homme’s Desert Sessions before releasing the 2004 debut Peace, Love, Death Metal. Albums including Death by Sexy, Heart On and Zipper Down expanded the band’s riff-heavy sound while keeping Hughes’ wiry guitar style and playful lead-vocal delivery at the center. Hughes also records as Boots Electric, while Homme is widely known for Queens of the Stone Age.
That blend of bluesy garage rock, boogie and glam makes Hughes a natural match for Wolfe. Both artists favor guitar-forward songs, physical grooves and performances that treat classic rock attitude as something alive rather than nostalgic.
The history behind Emily Wolfe and Jesse Hughes’ collaboration
“LIPS” grew from a long musical connection on Wolfe’s side: she had been an Eagles of Death Metal fan since high school. Writing and recording with Hughes became a full-circle moment and Wolfe’s first in-studio collaboration with another artist. She has described Hughes as both a creative partner and a mentor during the sessions.
Wolfe, Hughes and producer Gavin Brown wrote the song together. Their goal was to preserve the dangerous, spontaneous character of older rock records while giving every drum hit, vocal exchange and guitar part enough clarity to feel current. Hughes’ sly, elastic vocal presence plays against Wolfe’s forceful delivery, while the chorus turns their shared influences into a modern Judge & Jury rock single.
